4 Ways to Stay Weak

TRENDING

If you are in the gym, giving it your all for months, and you aren’t seeing much progress… there is a reason for that. Maybe even multiple reasons.

Many people focus too much on what to do and they don’t focus enough on what not to do. Read that again.

Many things can make or break your gains, literally. So let’s get into some of the things you should avoid if you want to hit your goals in the gym. Effective immediately.

Not enough sleep

As shown in the (100% scientific) picture above – getting proper sleep is crucial to reaching your fitness goals.

Most people don’t know that your muscles don’t grow in the gym, they actually grow when your body is recovering. When you workout, you are tearing down the muscles. Don’t freak out though.

The teardown of the muscles is a natural part of the process. During rest and sleep, your body repairs and rebuilds those muscles to be even stronger than before.

It's the combination of effort and recovery that leads to real progress. Sleep = Gains. Okay?

First off, the Starbucks drink has more calories than the meal does. Wow. Secondly, the meal is more likely to fill you up than the Starbucks drink based on volume. So in most weight loss scenarios, drinking your calories is going to be a bad idea. Simple.

Not tracking your calories

Many people run away when they hear the term “tracking calories”. Which is their first mistake.

One of the first steps in achieving your fitness goals is to decide if you need to be in a calorie surplus or a calorie deficit.

You figure this out by calculating your maintenance calories, and either eating more than that (if you want to gain weight) or eating less of that (if you want to lose weight). Simple, right?

Well if you are not tracking your calories, then you won’t know where you are going.

Imagine trying to walk to your house from across the country, without GPS. You’ll get there eventually… but it sure would have been faster with a car and a GPS.

If you are serious about your gains – track your calories.

Too much volume

When we say you may have “too much volume” in your workouts, we aren’t talking about your music. Too much volume means you may be training too much.

Training too much? Is that even possible? Yes.

More isn’t always better. When you work too far past your limits, you can tear the muscle fibers more than necessary, leading to overtraining. Overdoing it can lead to fatigue, injury, burnout, and more.

If you look at the picture above you can kind of see how volume in the gym can be looked at similar to Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We used the example numbers above but everyone has a different balance in terms of volume.

Play around with it and find yours.

Not staying hydrated

Staying hydrated is essential for overall health and optimal performance, especially during workouts.

When you're properly hydrated, your body can regulate temperature more efficiently, allowing you to exercise harder and longer without feeling fatigued.

Plus, proper hydration helps maintain proper muscle function and joint lubrication, reducing the risk of cramps and injuries.

“Exercise performance decreases as less blood is available for perfusion of active skeletal muscle.”

reference

The quote above basically means… not enough water = not enough gains.

Keeping a water bottle handy and sipping regularly throughout the day is a simple yet effective way to stay hydrated and support your fitness goals.

All in all

While no one is perfect, we should all strive for perfection.

Being successful in fitness requires a lot of moving gears. Take it one step at a time. You can do it.
